The Dragons, terrible winged creatures that roam Westeros or the lands of any fantasy setting you’ve encountered, are the quintessence of the fantastic culture of almost any acivilizations. They have been described in all guises: as villains or as precious allies, or as destroyers of entire nations or even as divine saviors. Whichever angle you look at them, they are the undisputed winners of the festival of fantasy creatures.
So, in 2021 Cardboard Alchemy published, with a very successful kickstarter campaign, a game about dragons. Oh well, what a surprise…
However, these creatures, overused in their various forms, took a new path: to become tender and very cute little monsters at the service of the inhabitants of a strange village. From savior (or destroyer) of peoples, to faithful servant: a sort of house elf 2.0. This is just a flight of fancy, let’s admit; like an unexpected twist worthy of Agatha Christie.
Flamecraft brings to your table an army of wonderful little dragons who, with wisdom and patience, forge horseshoes, bake bread or toast delicious Catalan creams. And of course, they brew potions or roast precious gems.
All in simple and intuitive mechanics, within everyone’s reach, in a common engine building that will lead all players to a race for the best dragon assistant to use, aiming to get the best reputation in the village.
Despite its simplicity, this game is not immune to clutter: 6 different types of resources, combined with different decks of large and small cards, can transform a fast and lean game into a title with an unnecessarily heavy setup.
