Setting off on an adventure without leaving home: low cost, little effort, and the same sense of satisfaction. How is that possible?
The first thing that comes to mind, of course, is a good book. From Salgari to Jules Verne, countless authors have hurled us into exotic and imaginary worlds, letting us live as Malaysian pirates, Arctic explorers, or astronauts. Okay—what else?
In the 1970s, storytelling on paper took an unexpected turn, and suddenly we found ourselves shaping our own destiny: Dungeons & Dragons plunged us straight into adventure, with dice, miniatures, and character sheets. A real revolution, overturning the roles of writer and reader. What next?
Well, the step from rulebook to game box was a short one. Masterpieces like HeroQuest or Descent added components, boards, tokens, and more miniatures, for even deeper immersion.
And this is exactly where the folks at Red Raven come into play, with a “world crawler” in which, instead of dungeons and underground lairs, we are called to explore an entire unknown region: I’m talking about Sleeping Gods, of course.
The Manticore guided our intrepid heroes through islands, mountains, and ports. It introduced them to friends and foes, forced them to retreat in the face of monstrous creatures, and finally led them to leave those lands, richer—or poorer—than before.
And so we arrive at the second chapter: in Sleeping Gods: Distant Skies we won’t be sailors, but… pilots. An airplane is faster than a ship, which means the distances to cover—and the adventures to embark on—will be even greater.
A gripping story and a huge box, packed with components and, above all, cards. Even just setting this game up is an undertaking.
Luckily, here at The Dicetroyers we have a safe harbor (and an airport) to land at: after our organizer for Sleeping Gods, we’re back with Sleeping Gods: Distant Skies!
Trays for every resource and deck, but not only that: we’ve also designed a quick-save system, so you can pack everything away and start again exactly where you left off—in just a few minutes.
To adventure! Properly organized, of course.
