Space: the final frontier. From planet Earth, take the second system on the right, then go straight on for a few thousand light-years and you’re there: the Outer Rim.
That’s where epic clashes of every kind take place, and of course Leder Games couldn’t resist jumping into the fray. After Vast, Root, and Oath, set in manors, forests, and vaguely medieval places, it’s time to head into space with Arcs (yes, they like four-letter titles—no more, no less). And if before it was dragons versus goblins, or rabbits versus cats, now it’s spaceships versus… other spaceships.
ARCS is a strategy game that takes the idea of “conflict” and shakes it until alliances, promises, and human relationships fall out. All in games that are not long—mind you—but intense. Like a condo meeting, only with spaceships.
At the heart of the game is a card system that looks simple until you realize that every choice you make today will come back tomorrow to bite you on the ankle. You’re not just playing a card: you’re telling everyone at the table what kind of person you are. Cautious? Aggressive? The one who says, “Come on, let’s do it this way, it works for everyone” (spoiler: it never works for everyone).
ARCS is divided into chapters, like a sci-fi novel written by someone who hates predictable endings. Each chapter tweaks the rules a bit, introduces new conditions, and reminds you that no, you still haven’t figured everything out. And when you finally think you’ve grasped the meaning of the universe, the game looks you straight in the eye and says: “Perfect. Now betray someone.”
Combat is fast, almost elegant, but never reassuring. You roll dice, do mental math, smile nervously. You win? Great—now everyone hates you. You lose? Worse—now everyone sees you as prey. In ARCS there is no comfort zone, only unstable orbits.
And then there’s politics. Oh, politics. Verbal agreements, solemn promises that last exactly until the next turn, and that phrase you’ll hear often: “It’s nothing personal, it’s strategy.” A lie. It’s always personal.
We at The Dicetroyers, after Vast and Root, couldn’t miss the chance to bring a bit of order to the dark depths of space as well. And voilà: here’s the organizer for Arcs which, with card holders, player sets with dedicated slots, and tile trays, lets you set up an epic tabletop battle in just a few seconds.
After all, a few seconds at warp speed mean a few million kilometers. If you don’t want to end up a few planets late, the answer is here and now.
