The era of the metaverse, of the digital at all costs and of alienation from reality sails full speed towards unknown shores, guided by our Avatars, our AI and “our” algorithms. In an era that is forcing us to stay always connected with “Smart” devices and fast connections, the spaces of our analogical ego are shrinking more and more while its natural habitat is swept away by computer bulldozers.

It would seem counterintuitive, or at most dystopian, to say that board game, real-world encounters and events are experiencing a new springtime. And instead, hear, hear, it’s not like this.

Those, who follow the board game news, have been able to notice an unprecedented expansion of board games, role-playing and, in general, physical play in recent years. Our analogical ego is far from giving up and it’s evolving hand in hand with our digital part, carving out ecological niches where we could least expect it.

The Pandemic and the “distancing” have somehow broken the chains of our physiological social ego, creating an enormous desire to go out, meet, speak face to face and, in general, confront ourselves with the real world. And which social moment is the best to satisfy this renewed desire of ours? The Fair, of course!

It therefore happens that Modena Play 2022 (an italian famous fair) resurrects from the ashes left by the last two years of the pandemic, bringing back throngs of fans to their gaming tables. This year, more than in the past, we have felt this renewed passion in the air; the desire to be together, to live, shoulder to shoulder, as part of an army led by Admiral Enthusiasm that defeats distancing, isolation, alienation from reality and virtual avatars of dice, placement, laughter and punches on the tables.

And it also happens that soon the Internationale Spieltage Spiel 2022, or Essen fair (located in Germany) will begin, the most famous and important event for us fans of board games: here the playful Phoenix, reborn from the ashes, will surely return to fly again on its wings with a strong passion, bringing back all of us in that place that belongs to us, in that place we deserved after having atoned our alleged sins of asociality for too long: playing around a round, square, rectangular or (even better) hexagonal table, with the curiosity of the eternal child that is in all of us, opening and closing boxes, handling meeples and miniatures, fighting and building villages. Winning, losing, but above all, being there. We will be there! come and visit us at hall 6 booth number 6H123!
