While global warming rages across the world and summer nights become increasingly unbearable, there are people who are trying to find more sustainable ways to cool off than an air conditioner turned on at 16 degrees 24 hours a day.

Lately, playing Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel, I found a sort of mental refreshment while my Ashen One wandered around frozen lands and vikings enraged by the chill climate. On the other hand, the flesh sends signals, but it is the mind that processes them: and let’s face it, when a passion enters our brain, nothing can stop us: neither a barking neighbor’s dog, nor tropical heat or pitch darkness.

So, trying to overcome yet another heat wave with a good board game, I recently tried Revive. And getting out of the ice has never been so fun.

I don’t know if it was for the theme of the game, where intrepid tribes who survived a very long glaciation put their heads above the ice to try to revive a civilization, or for the mechanics, a truly successful mix of deck and engine building, modular map colonization and building/population placement; but I really didn’t feel the heat weather from start to finish while playing.

This title, published by the newly formed Aporta Games, captured the attention of the general public at Essen 2022, and we can say with certainty that it was no coincidence: simple rules and fast actions, combined with a deep gameplay that you really don’t expect, make this game a real playful pearl.

And what about the game setup?

Perhaps the opposite of the gameplay… There are many pieces, including decks of cards, tokens of all kinds and types and meeples to be placed everywhere. The biggest flaw of this game, in our opinion, is the poor ergonomics of the player boards when it comes to using the cards in one’s actions, especially if obsessively packed; we had serious difficulty placing the lower or upper half of the cards under the board.

And at The Dicetroyers, this serious difficulty meant a problem to be solved; so, we couldn’t remain idle.

Here it is! Our organizer for Revive, which will not only allow those who have the courage to be reborn from the ice not to go crazy with the sea of components of this game, but also will avoid problems with the game boards: the 16 pins included, in fact, allow to raise the boards just enough to play your cards without the risk of overturning everything.

If you don’t want to fall back into the crevasse, then, set-up as you should, for the rebirth of this splendid game.
